What we collect
When you create an account we store your username, optional display name, optional email address, and a hashed password (PBKDF2-SHA256 — we never store plaintext passwords). As you use HackGreek we store the study data needed to run the product, including flashcard review history, spaced-repetition state, saved verses, and lightweight first-party alpha events such as playing audio, saving a flashcard, or submitting feedback. If you contact us, we store your message and basic request metadata such as IP address, page URL, browser, viewport, and referrer so we can debug alpha issues and prevent abuse.
What we don't do
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties except as described below. We do not run advertising or third-party analytics.
Third-party services
- Stripe — handles all payment processing. We pass your user ID to Stripe when you start a subscription; Stripe stores your payment details. We never see or store card numbers. Stripe's privacy policy is at stripe.com/privacy ↗.
- Google reCAPTCHA v3 — used on the sign-up and contact forms to detect bots. reCAPTCHA runs invisibly and sends browser signals, including your IP address, to Google for bot detection. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy ↗.
- Cloudflare — hosts the site and processes all traffic. Cloudflare may log IP addresses and request metadata per their standard infrastructure practices.
Cookies & sessions
We use a single HTTP-only session cookie (hackgreek_session) to keep you signed in. It expires after 30 days. We also use browser session storage for a temporary alpha session ID so we can group first-party product events during one visit. We don't use tracking cookies or analytics cookies.
Data retention & deletion
Your account and all associated data is retained as long as your account exists. You can delete your account from your profile menu, which also removes the associated study data.
